Andrea Field

Board of Regents | Executive Committee | President | Communications Committee Co-Chair | Membership Committee Co-Chair | Fellow since 2009
For over 50 years, Andrea Field – a long-time partner and now special counsel with Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP – has represented a broad range of clients in federal rulemakings, permitting proceedings, and litigation arising under the federal Clean Air Act and other federal and state environmental laws. Most notably, Andrea has served as lead counsel for industry in precedent-setting environmental law cases arising out of EPA’s initiatives to create federal permitting programs under the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, establish interstate air pollution transport programs, and set national ambient air quality standards. She has also successfully represented individual companies in high-profile federal and state enforcement proceedings. Andrea’s work has garnered her significant professional recognition and numerous awards. In 1980, she was the first woman elected to chair what is now the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Lawyers (1989-1990), and during her term, SEER became the fastest growing Section in the ABA. Andrea was elected to be a member of the American College of Environmental Lawyers in 2009 and served as President of that College from 2019-2020. She has been listed in Chambers USA since 2003 and has made Washingtonian magazine’s list of Top Lawyers for her work in environmental law since 2004. Andrea received her B.A. from Yale College in 1971, the first year that the Yale College undergraduate class included women. She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School in 1971.
