Sam Gutter retired from Sidley Austin LLP in 2018, capping a 41-year career practicing environmental law. He began his career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington, DC, serving in the Office of Enforcement and then the Office of General Counsel, where he developed expertise in the Superfund program and the mobile source provisions of the Clean Air Act. Sam left EPA in 1985 and entered private practice, joining Sidley in 1986. Sam and his wife, Denise, make their home on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
