Natural Disasters
The aftermath of catastrophic natural disasters often leads to complex and urgent questions related to the environment, including the impacts of disaster recovery, emergency response, hazardous materials handling, and community and corporate issues.
With the rising number of natural disasters - flooding, wildfires, and drought - ACOEL fellows regularly engage in issues associated with resilience planning, on the legal structures that influence preparedness and recovery, and on systems for reconstruction and resettlement post-incident. ACOEL fellows examine issues involving the intersection of federal, state, and local regulations, land use policy, and zoning, as well as insurance, compensation, and siting and implementation of infrastructure projects.
