Retired after 43 years of practice, all with Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in Nashville. Practice was regulatory and litigation in most areas of environmental law. Also was an adjunct professor of environmental law at Vanderbilt Law School for 13 years. Currently Board and Executive Committee member of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands (also President of the Board), Metro Nashville Community Oversight Board (re Metro Nashville Police Dept.), and KIPP Nashville (charter school).
